The Carlton County Recorder’s Office is responsible for statutory duties assigned to the Offices of the County Recorder, Registrar of Titles and the Local Registrar (Vital Records).
The Carlton County Recorder’s Office is the custodian of all legal documents that affect real estate and this office provides protection and public notice of such information.
The Recorder’s Office is charged with the acceptance and recording of over 400+ different document types (according to Minnesota State Statutes), while providing access to those documents as well as the permanent preservation of all such records and is the authorized repository for Military Discharge Records.
The Office of the Registrar of Titles of Carlton County is responsible for the creation and maintenance of Certificates of Titles for property that has been adjudicated as Torrens by the District Court in Carlton County. The Registrar’s Office follows Minnesota Statutes Chapter 508 Registration of Land for Torrens requirements.

The Public Service Counter operates for the in-person functions of the County Recorder and Local Registrar (Vital Records) Departments.
The area reviews documents for acceptance to be recorded in the real estate records of Carlton County and processes funds for document recording.
This area processes all vital records requests.
The Public Research Area is equipped with terminals to assist the public with inquiries pertaining to real estate records and tract information.
Access to the Minnesota Department of Health’s public birth and death records page is also available at the terminals upon request.
