[ARCHIVED] PRESS RELEASE: Carlton County COVID-19 update 3/27/20

Carlton County COVID-19 update 3/27/20

Health Recommendations:

Carlton County is continuing to follow the recommendations from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in best practice for all guidance related to COVID-19.

Carlton County Leaders and Public Health Officials continue to plan for the potential of positive cases in the County (no lab-confirmed positive cases at this time). As guided by the Minnesota Department of Health, Carlton County is ready to respond to a confirmed case and will work with partners to care for affected individuals.

Minnesota residents should be aware that community transmission is prevalent across the state and nation now, so personal protective measures continue to be as important as ever:

- Continue to follow the Governor’s Executive #stayathomeMN Executive Order

                - Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer

                - Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow

                - Avoid touching your face or mouth

                - Take care of your physical health and mental well-being

A majority of COVID-19 cases (80%+) are mild, and affected persons have recovered at home, without medical intervention. Jenny Barta, Carlton County Public Health’s Lead Nurse on Infectious Disease and Control, shared “We believe that because most cases are mild, and since there is community transmission happening, there will be more cases in the community than are counted in lab-confirmed tests. As long as individuals are able to isolate themselves when they have manageable respiratory symptoms, of any kind, there is no need for COVID-19 testing. If symptoms become unmanageable at home, call your healthcare provider. It also stresses the importance of the Governor’s executive order to stay at home unless you need something essential.”

Carlton County Public Health and Human Services is continuing to recommend that anyone with general health-related questions about COVID-19 call MDH’s hotline (7am-7pm): 651-201-3920 or 1-800-657-3903.
