Carlton County COVID-19 update 5/28/20

General Updates:

For updated case counts around the state, please continue to reference the situation map, updated by MDH daily at 11am here (includes county-specific case count). The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) continues to do the main investigation of each case, and Carlton County Public Health staff will follow-up when needed.

Statewide, of the 22,947 lab-confirmed cases on MDH’s website, 606 are currently hospitalized and 16,655 no longer need isolation. Please visit the MN Department of Corrections website for more cases specific to those who are incarcerated.

Please visit partner websites (DEED, CDC, StaySafeMN, etc.) for Guidance on Safely Reopening Sectors of Industry and Services from the State of Minnesota

Stress can run high for families who are sharing close quarters for an extended amount of time, like we have encountered with COVID-19. Please see this website from the MDH for Tips and Resources for Children and Parents during COVID-19. The page includes connections, resources, activities for children, and hotlines.

Additional Health Recommendations:

If you are waiting for results from a COVID-19 test, you must separate yourself from others and watch yourself for symptoms. The clinic that did your testing will get the results to you. It can take several days for test results to come back. Do not call MDH to get your test results. More information can be found here.

Masks or cloth face coverings can help with preventing your germs from infecting others – especially in situations where you may spread the virus without symptoms. Wearing a cloth face covering may not protect you from others who may spread the virus. While people who are sick or know that they have COVID-19 should isolate at home, COVID-19 can be spread by people who do not have symptoms and do not know that they are infected. That is why it is important for everyone to practice social distancing (staying at least 6 feet away from other people) and wear cloth face coverings in public settings. Cloth face coverings provide an extra layer to help prevent the respiratory droplets from traveling in the air and onto other people. You still need to wash your hands frequently, cover your cough, and stay home if you are feeling sick, unless seeking medical care. Some people with certain health conditions might not be able to wear a mask, so be kind and wear a mask if you can. Not sure how to buy, make, wear, or remove a mask correctly? Mental Wellbeing Tip of the Day:

Look for ways to grow. Reconnect with old hobbies or find a new one. Pick up those old instruments or try playing golf again. Maybe get back on that bike collecting dust in the garage!

Carlton County Public Health and Human Services is continuing to recommend that anyone with general health-related questions about COVID-19 call MDH’s hotline (Weekdays 8am-6pm and Weekends 8am-4pm): 651-201-3920 or 1-800-657-3903.
