Maltreatment of Minors Mandated Reporter Training

You must complete this training before you can be licensed and annually thereafter.  To complete this training, Watch the Blue Module at Mandated Reporter Training and provide a copy of the completed certificate from the training.  


Normalcy and Reasonable and Prudent Parent Standard Training

Training Required if Providing Care for Children Age 8 or Under

Car seat training must be complete before you can be licensed to care for a child age 8 or under.  Car seat training is required by Minnesota Statute 245.18.  Required Car Seat Training 

This training has changed to B.E.S.T. and will have an on-line portion and an in-person portion.  In order to be registered for the on-line portion, please contact Misty Lind at misty.lind@carltoncountymn.gov or 218-878-2534.  Once you are registered for the on-line portion, you should receive a follow up email with a -link on how to register for the in-person portion and will include details on the location and cost of training.  Please verify you will be able to attend the in-person session the following month when being registered for the on-line portion.  

If you need to renew this training, also contact Misty Lind at misty.lind@carltoncountymn.gov or at 218-878-2534 to be enrolled for the on-line portion.  You need to complete the on-line portion and then the following month you will needs to complete the in-person portion.

After training is completed, please submit the certificate of completion for your foster care licensing social worker.  

Training Required if Providing Care for Children Age 5 or Under

Under Minnesota Statutes 245A.144 child foster care providers caring for infants or children through 5 years of age must be instructed and receive training on Sudden Unexpected Infant Death/Abusive Head Trauma (SUID/AHT) at least once every 5 years.  Required Sudden Unexpected Infant Death & Abusive Head Trauma.

Training on Sudden Unexpected Infant Death/Abusive Head Trauma (SUID/AHT) needs to be completed if you are caring for children age 5 or younger.  The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) approves the following trainings.  You need to watch all 4 videos and give the completed post tests to your licensor to get credit.

Please note: The videos below include portrayals of infant sleep environments in private, non-licensed homes that are not subject to the requirements of Minnesota Statutes, section 245A.1435. Licensed child foster care providers must comply with statutory safe sleep requirements when sleeping infants including nothing in the crib except for an infant’s pacifier. In addition, attachments or modifications to the crib are prohibited.

Under Minnesota Statutes 245A.144 MN Statute 245A.144 child foster care providers caring for infants or children through 5 years of age must be instructed and receive training on SUID/AHT at least once every 5 years.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Training

You must complete the following training within one year of receiving your license.

The training requirements for child foster care licensing in Minnesota Statutes, section 245A.175, MN Statute 245A.175, were amended to add an annual requirement of one hour of training on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders within the first 12 months of licensure.  After the first 12 months of licensure, training on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders maybe part of the 12 hours of the required in-service training per year.
